Ashes of Difficult Patterns!

TGD097_Ashes600

TGD097 – Ashes (of difficult patterns)

I decided to take a break from my usual designs and create something fun and different!

Creating a cross stitch project by following a pattern can be a lot of fun if all is going smoothly. But I am sure we’ve all experienced frustration over a difficult pattern at one time or another.

Some of my longest undertakings took several years to complete (stitching on and off!) And, yes, I have another multi-year undertaking hogging one of my scrolls right now! I needed something fun and quick to stitch for my well being.

So, I designed “Ashes (of Difficult Patterns)”! This design uses full cross stitches with a delightful set of over-dyed colors from The Gentle Art threads. The color variations are subtle with these threads, so you get a lot of depth in your work without using too many shades of one color. In this design, I also used long stitches to outline the urn. The background fabric “Twilight Mist” is a beautifully hand dyed fabric available from Wichelt Imports, Inc. I left a lot of open spaces in my design to display this fabric which adds such a nice dimension to the finished work!Stitch count is 64 x 115.

You can find more info on this and other designs at my website http://www.tgdcharts.com

Until next time, happy stitching!

Unique gift ideas for Math Lovers! Conversation starters!

There’s nothing like that “Aha!” moment when you grasp what seemed like an alien concept a minute ago! I used to enjoy that feeling a lot in math class! I loved math! I still do… geometry, algebra, and yes, calculus! I don’t get to use these wonders as much in my current line of work, but I am still excited to look at a new math book, or better yet, an ancient math papyrus!

But, let’s face it, math can be frustrating at times too! Surely, at some point, you felt like doing exactly this to your calculus book!

Math Pages Photo Block

Math Pages Photo Block

These photo displays are definitely conversation starters! Sure to include words such as “partial derivatives” and “double integrals”!

Conversation starters!

These would make fun gifts for yourself or a genius in your life 🙂  Add a unique touch to your home / office / desk!

Calculus pages never looked so good!

Calculus pages never looked so good!

I had so much fun creating these photo displays that I will definitely be making more of these!  In different colors and themes!

On a side note… the two books in the photos are my personal books.  I would never think of tearing those pages up! Too many memories, both “aha moments” and “frustrated hair pulling moments” are trapped in between those covers!

I purchased the books I used for this project, so I would have no personal attachment to them when I got to work 🙂

Not so traditional picture displays!

For years, I have been using the traditional picture frames when it came to family photos and displaying my needlework! But when one starts thinking outside the box, the possibilities are endless…

There are so many fun ways to use blocks and boards as display!

And, they’re not just for photos either… keep a cheerful one at your desk to keep your memos, business cards etc. handy.  Yes, in this occasion, it is OK to mix business with pleasure!

Handmade gifts they’ll cherish!

In between releasing new cross stitch designs, I like to pursue my other passions!  One of those passions is painting.

I love creating unique, handmade home decor! When you give someone a gift created just for them, I think it sends a message that they are really special in your life 🙂

Photo Blocks / Boards, Picture Frames

Photo Blocks / Boards, Picture Frames

I created some blocks with mixed media in mind… such as these photo blocks, I especially like the way this mini block turned out! With old book pages, a touch of gold and, of course, Turquoise Paint! The layered paper flower adds a touch of romance to this beautiful piece….

Turquoise and Burlap… such a great combination! When I was creating this set, I kept thinking about sunny days and wonderful trips to the coast!

I have also been working on creating some traditional picture frames as well… This timeless romance piece has the tattered and worn look with its distressed wood frame elegant burlap with swirls, and the aging and worn out tile with the image of a beautiful woman!

New line of products! Desktop Needlework Organizers!

When I am working on a project I like to have my tools handy!  One thing that constantly gets lost in the jungle of floss and fabric on my desk are my scissors. My beaded scissors fobs help keep the search time to a minimum but I have been thinking about a more permanent and organized solution.

Desktop Needlework Organizers

Desktop Needlework Organizers!

So, I came up with this board idea! Portable, adorable mini needlework boards! I love the huge peg board that I have in my home office, but it did not scale down easily for a desktop project.  Although I think I can still make the peg board idea work (project for future!).  In the meantime, these lovely cork board centered beauties will add a touch of color to my work space and function as my mini desktop organizers.

I made my first batch and posted some on my Etsy shop.  I am already at work on the second batch with different colors and gadget holders! So check my listings often for more new items!

Pick up one (or several) for your desk and one as a gift! Your stitching friends will thank you for them! Switch your organizer boards around from time to time, so you’re energized for your next project! Perfect gift for needlepoint and cross stitchers, knitters, quilters and bead embroiderers!

Ancient Egyptian Goddesses in Beaded Elegance

Isis and Hathor, two of the most popular Ancient Egyptian Goddesses!

These two Goddesses were a joy to design and stitch! In addition to the many colors of embroidery floss, I used a lot of Mill Hill Seed Beads and two colors of Kreinik blending filament in each design to add a really nice texture to the finished product. Of course, you can stitch without the beads using the Bead to DMC color conversion chart.  But if you choose to stitch them in their full glory with the beads, I can assure you it will be quite worth the effort!

Hathor, Lady of Turquoise

Hathor, Lady of Turquoise

HATHOR
Lady of Turquoise, Mistress of the West, Goddess of Joy, Queen of the Dance, Lady of the Sycamore, and the Golden One!

I designed her dress with blue seed beads, inspired by the Ancient Egyptian beaded dresses!

The symbol next to her head reads “Hathor” in Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs.

Stitch count: 127 x 245
Fabric: 28 count Hand Dyed Lt. Terra Cotta Linen available from Wichelt Imports
Materials: Embroidery Floss, Kreinik Blending Filament and Mill Hill Beads

Isis

Isis, Lady of Life & Heaven

ISIS (ASET)
One of the oldest known Goddesses!

Lady of Life & Heaven, Goddess of Fertility, Goddess of Nature, Mistress of Magic were among the many of her titles.

The group of three symbols on the right is her name in Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs. Her name is sometimes pronounced as Aset (Isis is the Greek version of her name)

Stitch count: 251 x 110
Fabric: 28 count “Sandstone” 100% Linen available from Wichelt Imports
Materials: Embroidery Floss, Kreinik Blending Filament, Mill Hill Beads

As always, I am happy to answer any questions you may have about these designs, or help you find the Charts and/or the supplies.
